What better way to wait for our Messiah than with cookies and crafts!
Sunday morning fun - May 2019
The Fourth and last March Kingdom Kid's and Breakfast Club (Sunday School) potentially gross out lessons was tasting the foods that Jesus during the Last Supper. Most of our emphasis is on the Wine and Bread, and for good reason. That's Holy Communion, the elements being for us the sacred body and blood of our Savior given and shed for us for the forgiveness of sin.
So we tasted lamb, bitter salad, hard boiled eggs, hummus, goat's cheese, green olives and black olives. There were also a couple different kinds of bread. The kids were enthusiastic in their tasting and it turns out green olives are the least favorite of all.
Here's to celebrating Jesus!
A huge thank you to the Whitcombs, the Burchs, the Humbles and the Gilyards for their asistance in putting it all together and assisting in meal delivery.

Christian education is vital to who we are at SSLC – and it defines us both in the present and in the years to come. This is what I mean: One of the biggest obstacles for people coming into a church is feeling like they are outsiders, both culturally and by simply not knowing the rituals, traditions and basic Bible facts. And snack, of course.
The ministry focus for us when working with children from birth through sixth grade is simply to ensure that they hear and learn the stories of the Bible. Sunday School realistically comes down to a couple key points: Share a Bible story, talk about it a little, do an activity, sing and pray. The Holy Spirit works through the Word of God spoken – so please know God is already doing the faith-building even when it appears the children aren’t listening. Their hearts certainly are and God is at work. Therefore I will continue to push families with young children to bring them to worship: The entire family grows (even if moms and dads tire of behavior issues – although the rest of us are basically thinking ‘Been there, got the T-shirt.’ The 2018-19 SSLC program year kicks off on September 9. Students entering Kindergarten will receive the ‘Children’s Illustrated Bible’ from the congregation during worship. Students entering fourth and fifth grade will receive ‘Brick Bibles’ during worship. All confirmation students will receive ‘Colaborate’ Bibles during worship, as well. Children (ages three through fourth grade) will begin Kingdom Kids Sunday School that day at 9 a.m. We will be using a new education curriculum called “Group Buzz” and it looks fantastic. We are in the process of lining up teachers, who will work with the same class throughout the year and develop relationships that can have a lasting effect: How many of you remember a specific Sunday School teacher fondly? And if you didn’t have that – isn’t it something you might want to give to your children or the children of this congregation as a faith gift? |
Students in grades five and six are invited to participate in “The Breakfast Club” which involves, you guessed it, food. As the participants eat breakfast, lessons will be shared and discussed in a language this age group can understand and appreciate.
Starting at 9 a.m., 5th and 6th graders will have a Bible Study designed specifically for them - and their stomachs. Congregation members will be taking turns bringing breakfast to the classes: And it will be great. Please prayerfully consider joining one of the Teaching Teams that we are organizing at each level: Preschool, Pre-K/K, 1-2, 3-4 and The Breakfast Club. Teaching can be lonely and challenging – so we are working to have a minimum of three, if not four, teachers per level. The levels can work within themselves to determine schedules, but you will likely find incredible joy in team teaching. The Breakfast Club Calendar will be posted in the next week: please consider signing up and providing breakfast: It could be as simple as cereal and milk or muffins and juice – or as crazy as Belgian waffles and/or Quiche Lorraine. I say mix it up! This ought to be fun. If you have any questions, please call Pastor Thul at 651 341-3787. |
