MISSION & GRADUATE QUILTS

At South Santiago Lutheran Church, there is a rich history of helping those in need, both here and around the world. I would like to invite you to become a part of this ministry.

There are many different ways to participate in this endeavor, one of which is mission blankets. Currently, we have two types of coverings that we make, quilts and afghans.

We have a large stash of fabric for making quilts for local charities and Lutheran World Relief. Yes, we do need a few people to sew, but there also is a need for people to cut fabric, assemble and tie the quilts (no sewing required). The sewing of quilt tops can be done either at home or in the quilting room at the church.

We also have a great deal of yarn to work with and need people to make small knitted or crocheted squares that are fastened together to form an afghan. The squares can be made at home on your own schedule and then assembled later. Anyone with a few spare hours can be a part of this!
Another project we are involved with is making and presenting quilts to all of our high school graduates each year. If you are interested in being  part of these groups please contact Shelly Bluhm at 763-662-2468.

PRAYER SHAWLS

The love of knitting/crocheting has been combined with prayer to reach out to those in need of comfort and solace. The shawl maker begins with prayers and blessings for the recipient. The intentions are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. Upon completion, a final blessing is offered before the shawl is sent on its way. Some recipients have continued the kindness by making a shawl and passing it on to someone in need. Both the giver and receiver feel the unconditional embrace of a sheltering God! If you are interested in crocheting or knitting please contact Elaine Niesche at 320-558-6024.
